Day 4.

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

I've made it halfway. 4 more days until I get to go home and see my Jamison (and husband). And so far I haven't done anything too stupid... however I am making a small list:

1) I work in a very large warehouse. And it seems to me that it is very much like a maze. Yesterday, I was supposed to be the official 'question answerer' in a training session that started at 5:30 (and that's AM). Unfortunately as I was walking to the conference room, I must have taken a wrong turn or something (I'm still not sure where I went wrong) and walked all over the place and didn't end up arriving until 6:10. I even asked 3 separate people for directions... The training was just about over by the time I arrived and there were very few questions asked of me. I wonder if they didn't really feel comfortable asking technical questions to someone who got lost for 40 minutes. Needless to say, I paid VERY close attention on my way out and even made the walk again to make sure I could find it for next time. Turns out, the conference room was only about a 2 minute walk away from my desk. But at least I learned the way eventually.... or so I thought.

2) Two hours after incident 1, the customer decided to call an impromptu meeting in the same conference room. There were 4 other people working with me and none of them knew how to get to this conference room. But not to worry, I had JUST spent a lot of time learning the way so I volunteered to lead and was very confident I knew where I was going. I think I took the same wrong turn again. I ended up leading these 4 people in circles throughout the warehouse for about 10 minutes until we ran into someone who was also trying to attend the meeting but knew where they were going. It was rather unfortunate.

3) When leaving work yesterday, I was escorted back to the front of the warehouse so I could find my car (for some reason, everytime I leave my desk now, SOMEONE is there to show me wherever I need to go). I got in my car and realized that I left my purse back at my desk (about a 10-15 minute walk away). That kind of sucked.

4) Today, I was standing next to what I thought was a door with a jacket hanging on it while I was trying to talk someone through the program they were using. They were taking a little bit of time, so I went to lean against the door and it turns out it was some truck driver guy waiting to talk to the person I was helping. I guess I should be a little embarrassed by that, but I really thought it was a door. It was an honest mistake that could be made by anybody really.

5) And finally... I locked myself out of my hotel room again today. Unfortunately the same person was working the front desk which probably doesn't make me look all that good. Oh well. I do find it interesting that both times I have obtained a key to my room without giving anything more than my room number. Should I be worried that it was that easy?

Well, that's about it so far. That's not so bad, right? And really I think I can blame these minor incidents on pregnancy and the fact that my alarm clock goes off at 2:45 AM. That's just not an hour I function well in and it seems to carry through the whole day.

All right, it's bath and bedtime now. 4 more days.... :)
